Being the apex body for overall skill development in the Handicrafts and Carpet sector, the prime task of HCSSC is to develop the skill ecosystem for the sector.
For that matter, HCSSC considers all the aspects of the skill development process. It includes research for the purpose of understanding the particulars for the process and then implementing them.
HCSSC is technically responsible for structuring and managing the whole skill development process for the Handicrafts and Carpet sector.
HCSSC works through a structured sequence of research, standards, training, assessment and, industry engagement so the sector gets consistent and industry-aligned outcomes.

HCSSC, as per the guidelines of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship/ NCVET/ Ministry of Textiles/ NSDC and with respect to industry requirements, develops and sets standards for the various training programs aligned with NSQF/NCrF.
HCSSC conducts trainings for candidates through affiliated Training Providers/ Centre of Excellences and associated Industry Members/ Partners as per the guidelines of MSDE/ NCVET/ NSDC.
HCSSC ensures rigorous evaluation of trainees' knowledge and practical skills through independent assessment agencies recognized by NCVET. These comprehensive evaluations guarantee that certified artisans and weavers meet national quality benchmarks and aligned industry standards.
HCSSC actively collaborates with industry leaders, craft clusters, and exporters to align skill development with evolving market needs. Through strategic partnerships, we bridge skill gaps, expand opportunities, and drive sustainable employment across the handicrafts and carpet sector.
With India's vast population and economic disparities, traditional academic routes often bypass marginalized communities. By introducing specialized vocational training, HCSSC bridges this gap within the traditional crafts sector.
